Eric L: Sigh. <<Presumably 1xRTT carriers will evolve similar services and applications although I have not yet seen a prioritized roadmap like the one above from CDG or 3GPP2 yet.>>

Huh? Within the narrow confines of "similar services" perhaps so.

All 1x and 1xEVDO offer is full data use for music, photos, e mail, streaming video, and on and on.

The funniest comparison is "location services" which is not exactly the strong suit of GSM/GPRS to date, but then it all comes to the eye of the beholder it seems.

KDDI in Japan has found that "location services", using GPS one from Qualcomm, are key to the rapid uptake of its 1x "au" service.

In the US the GSM based service can't pass the FCC tests.

Ah well, good luck with your pitch for GSM onward.

Best.

Nota bene: In Korea the data applications and services using 1x and 1xEVDO are well established and in use - way beyond the "uses" cited for GSM/GPRS.
