Yes, I believe you are right. Nothing is ever as simple as it seems. Simple solutions, such as we espouse in these threads, are often just unimplementable pipe dreams. Take my dream of no gun ownership. I cannot imagine, truthfully, how it would be implemented. An interesting debate, but with no real world application, I'm afraid. What irks me is when the politicians claim to be 'compromising' when in fact they are simply looking out for their own self interests. Protect my pork barrel, and I'll protect yours. If there was another volume of Profiles in Courage that only included subjects post 1980, it would be a sadly thin volume.
