I was 19, been married a year and had a new born. How did I have the courage? Very simple, my son was in that house. There was no way in hell that SOB was getting in there.........plus I knew for a fact that he was more scared of me than I was of him. He really did have something to fear from me.....and we both knew it. The guide lines for admission to a VA pysc hospital at that time were very, very "rights" orientated. Plus the fact that the VA was always under funded and over crowded didn't help any at all. He passed all the testing they gave and at that time, didn't dole out medicine like they do now.
