I read almost everything I can get my hands on, precisely for that reason. Until I got to be about 50 years old, I didn't realize how much the various venues manipulated the news in subtle little ways. Headlines, for example. If all you read is headlines, you are going to get the editorial opinion of the publisher. If you do your own thinking read the whole story, usually you'll reach an entirely different conclusion.

I don't listen to left-wing talk radio, though. It's too outrageous and does nothing but enrage my mood. NPR is about all I can take. It usually spends a lot of public money promoting some cause that I don't believe in.

Some of the people commenting on this board are so adamant in their views that it almost seems like they must be paid hacks, or have some ulterior motive.

It really helps to have a diverse mixture of sources for your information imo. That is why I try to listen to all opinions. I try to watch a little of each of the major news networks. I listen to left wing as well as right wing talk radio. Some of them are a little hard to take occasionally, but I do get a balanced perspective that way.

I agree with getting diverse news sources. I agree with Dave, also, that sometimes it is hard if you feel the information is being slanted. I posted a number of months back my experience while taking my family to Disneyworld during the election fiasco. I watched the Jerry Falwell channel. My wife always asks me why I do things like that, as it gets me obviously aggitated. My answer is that you have to see what sort of bull the OTHER half is getting.
