The Arabs are today where Europe was 300 to 400 years ago. Then Europe also had monarchies who commissioned armadas to go and look for foreign lands and colonialize them

Well, surprise, that's exactly where the Muslim lands were 300 to 400 years ago, too, trying to conquer foreign lands. The Ottomans were an equal and alien power to Europe and conquered foreign lands -- Arabia, the Balkans -- all throughout the 16th century. But then Europe stopped losing. At Lepanto in 1572 and Vienna in 1683 they even won some victories and stopped the Turkish advance.

So, what's the Muslim world's excuse now? We should excuse them because they haven't developed yet? Why not -- 500 years ago they were still well ahead of us! 300 years ago they were still an equal match for us. Whose fault is it that they are so backward now?

P.S. If you think that Nasser was any part of a democrat, there's a bridge in Brooklyn that I'd like to sell you. You can count real experiments in Arab democracy on the fingers of one hand. Such as they are, they exist today in Tunisia and Bahrain, not in Egypt, unless Stalinist sham elections with predertermined results are your cup of tea.
