I started reading Burning City, but didn't get very far before putting it down and moving on to something else. Like you with Dunces, that was a rare instance.

BTW, I started Dunces a few years ago and couldn't get through it, but I gave it a second shot awhile ago and wound up liking it. I think its value is how it captures the dialects of New Orleans. It's a more interesting read if you've lived in the city for a little while. All in all though, I think the book is over-rated.
