I think they are not so much destroyed, as revealed as illusory. I think it is a process of discovery. E and I probably still agree on many political things- but I can't stomach her actions on social matters, and she can't stomach mine. We simply didn't know enough to detest each other as early as we should have. It was mutual ignorance that kept us cordial, not true friendship.
