I'm simply using it as an example of how other people view us and our 'good deeds'. My father is a Marine who landed at Inchon, so I know a bit of what went on.

I guess an analogy might help. Arguably, we'd be celebrating the Queen's Jubilee if it weren't for French intervention. I was quizzing my 5th grade daughter on her Revolutionary War test, and asking questions to see how much she really understood. I asked her: "Why did the French help us?" Her answer: "Because they didn't like the British". Straight to the point.

So, I (and my daughter) view French help in forming our country from a realistic viewpoint. Sure, they helped us, but they did so for reasons other than philanthrophy. And if they still had a military base here, I'd probably be one out there protesting, too.
