If teaching about religions for insight into history is what you want, we might not disagree. Be sure to teach about the Inquisition. Be sure to teach about forced conversions, burnings at the stake, and the Crusades. On a more recent note, be sure to teach about people who thought they would burn in hell for eating meat on Friday. For current events, teach about the problems of molestation by priests. Teach about how David Koresh, Jim Jones, Jim Baker, and Jerry Falwell fit into the religious scene. Teach about bodies draped with purple scarves.

History can teach us a lot.
