Of course your risk on a sold put is limited to the price of the stock less your premium.

Well, actually if a pure gold meteorite hit the earth, it's so dense that it probably wouldn't stop until it got to the center of the planet, where most of the gold is, anyway. The entire fiat money supply would be gone in a wisp of smoke, along with the human race. The gold mines would remain though. Gold would become the trading currency of the surviving termites
