Although I dismayed with the compensation level for many CEOs, I am not in favor of legislating how much money they can make, or putting their options in a special reportable category while the rank and file stay in a non-reportable category. I am in favor of companies reporting all stock option compensation expense openly and honestly to shareholders and calling an expense an expense.

I have a couple of questions about you and Clarify which you may or may not choose to answer. Was Clarify ever a profitable company on a GAAP basis? Did the sale of Clarify to Nortel provide you and other employees of your position the wherewithall to retire?

As far as where the innovative minds will go, they'll go into research instead of industry.

Pardon my ignorance, but can you elaborate on this a little? Do you mean research at Universities? Why would they do this instead of continuing to work in private industry?

Best, Huey
