Dave, I can't quite believe you're anywhere but firmly against the practice Kendall's article(s) describe.

What should they do? If things are that desperate, they're that desperate because the risk profile has changed unexpectedly. The answer to that isn't to screw people out of legitimate claims, but to stand up and explain to your subscribers that you have to raise rates, whether across the board or in the specific areas where the risks are obviously higher than they once were.

I will be very unhappy when my home-owner's insurance goes up, but if that's the reality, that's the reality. I will be beyond unhappy, I will be livid, if I have to claim a loss and they attempt to cheat me after all the years I've paid quietly, uncomplainingly.
