One wonders where in this doctrine the concept of oversight enters the picture. Who decides if an imminent threat really exists? Are we talking about granting the executive the power to conduct war, unilaterally, on the basis of suspicion?

I'm not sure that's a good idea.

Fortunately the professionals in the military seem to be providing a level of restraint to counter the ideologues in the Administration. The military has stood up well on the Iraq issue, and I suppose they will do so again if need be. Still, it seems a very dicey policy to me.
