The last two peaked in early July 2001 (worth a 400 point Dow drop) and December 30. Technically, the Jan. 7 peak was in that second window, but not too clear an effect there. Puetz's studied showed the greatest effect in the six days before to three days after the lunar eclipse following a solar eclipse (June 24 in this case).

January 2001 coincided with a 500-point pullback in the Dow before the surprise rate cut rally continued, and July 2000 coincided perfectly with a 17% drop in the Nasdaq. The last one before that was September 1998.

There's enough cycle stuff and fundamental pressures between now and the end of the month to keep me in cash here.

Nice article, by the way. I see some HUI support around here (but have sold all my golds too and really don't see a good entry here, sentiment and indicator-wise, at least not yet):
