German exports to the United Kingdom up 5.3% in March 2002

WIESBADEN – As reported by the German Federal Statistical Office, German exports to the United
Kingdom increased 5.3% in March 2002 compared with March 2001, reaching EUR 4.6 bn.
However, total German exports decreased by 2.9% to EUR 54.3 bn in the same period.

German exports to the countries of the European Union were down 3.7%, reaching EUR 29.7 bn.
Increases could be observed for German exports to Russia (EUR 0.9 bn, +13.2%) and China (EUR
1.1 bn, +10.2%).

Total German imports in March 2002 decreased by 9.5% to EUR 42.6 bn. The sharpest declines
were observed for German imports from Japan (–25.7% to EUR 1.6 bn), the Netherlands (–20.9% to
EUR 3.3 bn) and the United States (–17.6% to EUR 3.5 bn). A positive growth rate was recorded for
German imports from China (+9.2% to EUR 1.6 bn) and Russia (+2.6% to EUR 1.1 bn).
