You're undoubtedly right! Now we did have that country at one time- -1848. The US Army was in Mexico City after Santa Ana's idiotic declaration of war on the US.

There was a debate as to whether we should keep Mexico. I've read that what finally determined the matter was that those good WASPs just didn't want to bring that many Catholics into the US.
