> Macassa, a half ounce per ton gold mine in Kirkland Lake, is shut today.

Foxpoint Resources foxpointresources.com is trying to reopen it:

"The Company is also pleased to announce it has reached the 3835 level in its dewatering campaign of the Macassa Mine. From this level a 35,000 foot underground drilling program will be initiated to drill off ore blocks that are open on, below and above this level and which plunge up towards surface. Pumping capacity will now be increased to quicken the rate of dewatering as the de-watering campaign proceeds down to the 4250 level where a two level production horizon will be established. Thereafter pumping will continue through successive levels to the 5700 level. "

"The Macassa Mine and its 2,000 tpd mill and surface facilities, along with four contiguous, former gold producing properties - the Kirkland Lake Gold, Teck-Hughes, Lake Shore and Wright-Hargreaves - were purchased by the Company in December 2001. "
