Long-term planning, perhaps?

where male subjects who were given very brief (subliminal) exposure to a card that read "Mommy and I are one" did more poorly on some task because of the Oedipal conflict thing.
You psychos are WEIRD! :-)

Did female subjects do poorly on "Daddy and I are one," I wonder.

I wonder if they tried, "The room and I are one," and "Your boss and I are one," and "Your internal organs and I are one."

I wonder if any rather peculiar and mysterious information on a card would do that.

And I wonder if the subjects were psych students, and if so, would that maybe make a difference?

We were having dinner a few nights ago in with four friends, when one of them, a long-time analysand, asked this question, more or less out of the blue: "Is there anyone here who doesn't think that the most powerful force operating on people (some formulation like that) is the Oedipal one?"

I was the first to raise my hand. His [new] wife was the second [probably not a good sign, lol].

He was incredulous.

Life is so funny.

[If we didn't have free run of the place we'd have to whisper furtively like the others and risk punishment by that guy. You know the one.]
