Intellectual Property The cost of protecting IP is very high, not only in dollars but in management time and scarce company resources. This is nothing new and it is not limited to the biotech area. Many years ago a book by Ira Magaziner called "The Silent Wars" was published. One chapter was about the development of fiber optic cable or wave guides. It is a wonderful story about the hard work of science and the harder work of protecting IP in the legal system. The book is dated but the lessons go on. Worth reading IMHO. ij
