Its purpose was to embolden others. Finn's article has a major new revelation in just about every other paragraph. I cannot get over how well he dug to get this kind of info. I have not seen it anywhere else. I have thought a lot about the attack, and I cannot get over the fact that Clancy was the only one who could come up with this scenario. And when he did, he had a crazed Pilot of the plane do it, not a hijacker. All the other things we read tell about people figuring that a plane would be loaded with explosives, not using the plane itself. Nobody thought that a "raghead"would be able to hijack and fly a plane. I guess this was our arrogance, plus we thought it would be too difficult to do. We had seen the last TWT attack done by people who appeared to be border level idiots, and figured any other attack would happen at that level. This must have started with someone who had taken training at one of our Pilot schools, and passed the word along that a 767 was easy to fly. We were extremely fortunate that the plane that hit the Pentagon did not crash into the White House or the Capitol building. The Pentagon is so much solid concrete that, from the terrorist's standpoint, it was probably the worst Washington target that could have been picked. Hitting the White House or the Capitol building would have resulted in not only more damage, and maybe more loss of life, but the dramatic effect of it, plus the Public Figures that would have been killed, would have really made the event worse, IMO. The passengers who attacked the hijackers and stopped them from getting that plane to Washington are real Heroes. They must have heard by phone about the TWT crashes, and realized what was in store for them. That is the only reason I can figure that they would attack. I am sure that the passengers and crew on the other planes could never have guessed what the outcome was going to be. From what we now know, even most of the hijackers did not realize they were on a death mission. I am sure that even among those in Islam that were horrified by the sight of what happened, there was a feeling of joy and satisfaction at seeing us humbled by their co-religionists. This is just normal human behavior. It makes me think of the scene among German Jews who escaped from Hitler's Germany, who, in spite of their hatred of the Nazis, were still delighted to see their fellow countrymen take over Europe in 1939.
