I've just explained the importance of private property. Don't underestimate the effect this had on our way of life and the subsequent growth of a free market economy.

But beyond that, faith is one important component. The act of exchanging pieces of paper for a day of labor requires a lot of faith. When depositors lose faith in banks, when citizens lose faith in the currency, economic disaster happens. But as long as faith is strong, people will accept intrinsically worthless paper or medal as payment for their property or labor.

All of commerce depends on honest transactions conducted in good faith.
