"sort of", but not really. The "we-ness" is the commonality and cooperation that avoids unnecessary confrontation or unreasonableness. Respect begins with the awareness that others have what is precious to you...even when there is disagreement. I do not mean there can be no sense of opposition or competition for resources or rights. I mean merely that a sense of commonality and sensitivity for the sanctity of the individual engenders a perspective and response consistent with such values.

Clearly, few of us would litigate against our own family members. My point is that an awareness of a shared agony and joy may be extended beyond family. It is an individual choice as to where to draw the line between some degree of "we-ness"...and encounters with aliens.
