Ken,

Thanks for your kind feedback. I can tell the conceptual model has some power because I am seeing things more clearly now. However, my early conclusion will be unpopular I suspect.

e.g. We are going after Iraq not because they are the most threatening target but because we know how to do that. It is specifically and metaphorically fighting the last war.

Indeed!!! It was an extremely lucid analogy...

I was having a discussion the other day with someone, after they asked me how we could win this war...

I spent some time trying to properly explain my belief that we require a regime change in Saudi Arabia, with guardianship of the holy cities of Islam being entrusted to a less fanatical group than the Wahabbis..

But if Paul permits, I'll be using his description in the future, since its something people can understand and it cuts to the chase.
