I understand the contrarian argument. I just do not buy it YET for the long term. For a rally, sure..it might just work.

This is the same contrarian argument that has been made at each 'bottom'. That somehow all was factored in and that it JUST COULD NOT get any worse.

Well, we know that today's low factored something more than the May low which factored something more than the February low which factored....

On the fundamental side of things, I read a few weeks back, that possibly by the end of the year you might have companies like Corning, JDSU etc going Ch-11 (the former at least for its optical division). Just as an example of what else can happen.

jt there may be some excellent small or mid cap values but why would people be anxious to buy stuff like proctor and gumball with p/e's > 40 ?

i think joe 6 pack is slowly getting the picture of the "wickedness of wall street" and will one by one throw in the towel...
