I normally don't believe in market manipulation. However, when put sellers (aka banks) get in trouble, mysteriously the Fed always shows up with a large coupon pass. They did it Yesterday, but it did not work as well as before - normally, $2.5 bln. coupon pass would send NDX into stratosphere. Yesterday it "only" closed up 2%. I guess, the market may be bigger than the Fed, or the faith in the Fed is almost lost. When it's totally lost, I would expect a rapid adjustment of stock prices (guess which way -ggg-).
