Martyrdom is not unique to Christians. Many Zhaun Falun (Falun Gong) followers are subjected to imprisonment, torture, and death due to their beliefs.

But I am not lead to believe that the doctrines of Zhaun Falun are true and their leader has installed a Falun (small, rotating universe) in the bellies of the followers which gives them super-powers. Read their "bible", it is highly entertaining:

Instead, I look for alternate explanations, such as:
1) Perhaps the number of people who have been persecuted has been greatly exaggerated. Stories of people willing to die for beliefs are popular among re-tellers, and therefore tend to spread easily regardless of truth content.
2) Maybe the people who are martyred are delusional and the benefits of Zhaun Falun are not objective.

Are there any other reasons you can think of to doubt their beliefs? Do any of these reasons apply to the apostolic martyrdom argument you are advocating?
