As part of the agreement between the United States and Mexico, 10 percent of the workers' salaries between 1942 and 1949 was automatically deducted and placed in a savings fund, with the intention of eventually returning the funds to the workers.

However, the money disappeared and it is unknown whether it is in the hands of the U.S. or Mexican government or private banks.
