One gets the sense of a fluid set of potential declarations, with all parties knowing perfectly well that nothing is likely to change until Arafat dies or the US invades Iraq.

Yeah.. be we STILL have to go through the motions and utter the words..

But you and I, and all of the others who know how to read the handwriting on the wall, can separate the reality from the "spin"...

We're playing for time, just like the rest of the participants... It takes time to build up a proper offensive strategy and the resources to carry it out. And we're certainly better served speaking about "peaceful" solutions as we prepare to carry out a more aggressive form..

It's also known as giving Arafat enough rope with which to hang himself.

One thing also we should bear in mind is that if the US restores "order" and peace to the world, global investors feel more confident to invest outside of the US.. And that hurts our economy, our dollar, and our stock market.

So we're also playing a careful game.
