Can you recall a time when you have ever made the sort of charges CH is famous for? Or I? Or JLA? Or E? Or Karen? Or twfowler? Or marcos? Or jttmab? Or Constant Reader? Or .....? Laz, I think that this place has lost all sense of proportion and the last vestiges of impulse control. The whole place. Chris says you are a liar. Not that he suspects you to be a liar or that he believes you to be a liar but that you ARE a liar. In response, he is accused of making ascurrilous charge, rightly so. He hasn't begun to demonstrate that you are a liar. He may think that. And it may be true. But he not presented a case that demonstrates sufficient basis for making such a charge. The charge is, IMO, both off base and hyped. There are a lot of charges flying around here that may or may not be off base but are definitely hyped, insistently hyped, cavalierly hyped, shamelessly hyped. We all use overstatement on occasion for emphasis. I know I do. Intentionally. For emphasis. I wonder if folks around here have lost contact with the extent to which extraordinary charges are being made with little evidence, how insinuations somehow morph into facts, and questioning the degree of hype is considered aiding and abetting the opposition. Just recently we have heard posters called perverts, homophobes, anti-Semites, and Nazis, among others. By those good citizens you cite above. Without apparent regard for any reasonable basis for whether they are demonstrable or true. My gut tells me that not all charges made of late are off-base, but none of them has, IMO, been close to being demonstrated at the level of the charge. They are all excessive when compared to the evidence and most of them are off-base to boot. I don't know whether posters are intentionally hyping or whether they are just too invested to critically analyze charges vs. evidence. But I do wish everyone would just take a deep breath before making excessive and slanderous charges and counter-charges.
