I gather you got this hearsay?

The actual plot is reported more as:

Christ was drugged on the cross. The Romans were bribed to take him away without breaking his legs (which would have insured his death). The plan was for the drugged Christ to appear as if resurected and lead the revolt of Jerusalem. The problem was between the drugging and cross he died anyway and so there was no Christ to lead the revolt. Years later Saul (Paul) retold the plot as part of the 40AD revolt and said that Christ went off to preach in some backwater town. The revolt was crushed and the second temple was destroyed and the population dispersed. The myth of Paul survived.
