Yet another lesson from the master

Thanks for the comments as well as your thoughts and methodology on moving averages. Yet another page of your book.

I started out experimenting with 3,6 ema which I found too fast and then I tried 5,10 which I thought were too slow so the 5,8 was a compromise I found comfortable. You're right about changing the ma for the speed the stock moves, and that's something I'm still finding my way on.

Your comment on risky or less risky is one of your most well taken points, one that everyone should sooner heed than later. A properly used set of moving averages will indeed help you to get the bulk of the move, and to me that's a lot more important than being able to say that I shorted near the exact top or went long near the exact bottom. On some other boards I see lots of people that make moves before there's any crossover, even using my fast MAs. I'm really not sure what they're looking at, but for me I have to be convinced a stock is going downtown or uptown before I'm going to get in. And those indicators you mentioned seem to be a pretty reliable way to do so.

I was thinking about you today when I heard the fires had reached the southern border of Denver. I wish I could send you some of the rain we've been getting here; we've had way more than enough this year. I hope things are OK in your neighborhood, and that the situation hasn't directly affected you too much. If it would help, I'll ask stan if he would drive one of those trucks full of beer kegs to your area. I'm sure a cold one would be nice right now.

Hi Flack!

<<<This exercise also brings to mind another of my rules, namely
following just a few stocks and their indexes. >>

Out of curiosity, what kind of stocks/indexes do you like to play with?
