There was a Canadian study done about 25 years ago, and it found that the lowest perceived social classes of occupations, were policemen, prostitutes, and taxi drivers. But taxi drivers had the same average IQ of graduate program psychologists, which are the highest IQ faculty of any university - at 140 average. (Stanford - Binet Test, not Wexler-Bellevue) Policemen had the lowest IQ of any occupational group, at 84. Prostitutes were median high in intelligence, at 125+. The confidence level of the tests, done by the Clarke Institute were 98%. These results would probably hold true across like cultures, but might change dramatically in highly differing social organizations.

What these studies suggest is that society's organization, which would be hellish hard to change for any reason, is such that the ability to reason well, is not selected for the important jobs that most need this kind of skill.
