<<Ot but due to the fires some insurance company is going to get hit hard.>>

Maybe not as hard as you might think. While some of the buildings lost are $1.5M+ homes or businesses, several of the buildings lost have been much smaller hand built vacation or weekend places. Many of this 2nd type, because they were "paid for" out of pocket while being owner built over a period of years were not financed & insured at a far lesser level & or worth FAR less money. Some are / were "summer only" cabins with near no heat & or lacked real running water(cistern supplied by truck or bottled water brought up when used). One of the buildings lost was an outhouse - while a terrible loss to the owner as outhouses can no longer be built or replaced and must be upgraded to a flush system with septic tank or composting toilet at a far greater cost - the "loss" was not insured and might not be allowed deduction off income taxes. The broad use & development of the composting toilets another place our friends (in Canada) to the north are ahead of us.
Another lost was a small shed with two ATV's fuel & some tools & camping gear.
