LONDON - The U.S. dollar fell against other major currencies in European trading Friday. Gold rose.


The euro was quoted at dlrs 0.9479, up from dlrs 0.9460 late Thursday.

Other dollar rates compared with late Thursday:

_124.11 Japanese yen, down from 124.90

_1.5557 Swiss francs, down from 1.5594

_1.5502 Canadian dollars, up from 1.5377

The British pound was quoted at dlrs 1.4766, up from dlrs 1.4732.

Gold closed in London at dlrs 318.90 bid per troy ounce, up from dlrs 318.30 on Thursday.

In Zurich the bid price was dlrs 319.65, up from dlrs 318.10.

Gold rose 80 cents in Hong Kong to close at dlrs 319.05.

Silver closed in London at dlrs 4.81 bid per troy ounce, down from dlrs 4.83 on Thursday.
