It was on tape -gg (NOT) I was speechless at the end of that game... so much yelling, rooting for Italy, the entire stadium was a total asylum. And that was only the semi-final... The final Brasil 4 x 1 Italy, was like a carnival... the Torcida Brasileira never stopped singing, dancing, yelling... Brasil scored first... they went berserk. Mind you, when Italy scored the equalizer... they were stunned, but upon the second goal, they never looked back. Brazil won the Jules Rimet Cup for the third time, which allowed them to keep it for good. (Had the Italians won, they would have kept it as they had also won the cup two times also) I could not speak for two days I was hoarse... it was a lot of fun. (I never went to the streets, that was even crazier) I also saw (live) in 1966 Wembley stadium the great goal that never was... England 4 x 2 W. Germany... in a word, pandemonium... In that cup, Portugal finished third by beating the USSR 2 x 1 in the 3rd/4th place match. I remember that match well, since a Portuguese guy sat next to me with a gigantic red/green Portuguese flag that would wave frantically as Portugal defeated the (then) Soviet Union. Portugal of 1966 was a super-power with Eusebio a super star in those days. In the quarter finals, Noth Korea were beating them 3 x 0 and Eusebio managed 4 goals for a final score of 5 x 3. England knock them out 2 x 1. in the semis Eusebio was also responsible for knocking out Brazil in the first round, although the real credit for such feat is owed to Bulgaria that played like absolute pigs and injured amongst others Pelé. Bulgaria lost all three matches, but neutralized Brazil with the injuries and Brazil lost against Hungary and Portugal. At the time they were the World Champions, having won in 1958 (Sweden)
