But what happens when we go about assassinating British citizens? On British soil? Without British consent? Yes... And if an American citizen is plotting terrorist acts against civilians upon British soil, I have little heartburn with MI6 eliminating that risk as well... People have got to be responsible for their actions. I don't care who they are, where they live, or what their cause may be. If they are choosing methods that deliberately target civilian populations, then Machiavellian strategies must prevail, respect for each other's law be damned. Of course, I have little problem in notifying our "allies" of the activities of these people in order to give them the chance to "do the right thing".. But if they don't, the mission of our intelligence agencies is to protect America from its enemies, no matter where they are. And yes... VERY tightly under control. They could only operate with the direct authority of the national leadership (Bush). Hawk

I can't imagine the political fallout from our erstwhile allies. BLACK SEPTEMBER:>>The Israelis were not going to take Palestinian terrorist attacks lying down and went on the offensive. Israeli actions reached a climax in March 1973 in the form of Operation Spring of Youth, the assassination by an Israeli hit squad in Beirut of PLO terrorist leaders Kamal Adwan, Mohammed Yusuf Al Najjar and Kamal Nassar.<<< This all came to light when Israel made a "hit," and killed Ahmed Bouchiki, a Moroccan, working as a waiter in Lillehammer Norway. It was a mistake, and bad tradecraft on the part of the Israelis resulted in the team being captured, tried, and put in prison. (they were released with two years.) I don't think our government is ready to do this type of operation. In fact, I don't think we are ready to do anything. Because of this, we can expect nothing of consequence to happen until we are hit with another major attack, IMO.
