Well, I'm holding US$ and I can tell you I am NOT a happy camper getting only 1.6% from the bank while I wait to convert it to an appreciating currency paying 6% interest [$Kiwi]. Uncle Al will have to raise interest rates to staunch the outflow and rapidly draining confidence. There are 5,000 million aliens and only 300 million Americans and it seems that a lot of the aliens are feeling that their money is being mistreated. Heck, they can be declared to be 'enemy combatants' because they make a joke about dirty bombs and dirty underpants and they get arrested for terrorist plotting, held without trial in some tropical cage, without trial [other than a triad of soldiers saying they reckon he done it - well, two out of three reckon so anyway], indefinitely. A lot of people are feeling nervous. 1.2 billion Chinese have been declared to be strategic competitors. Or was it enemy combatants? It's open season on anyone who might be considered to harbour antipathy to the USA. If Uncle Al wants to avoid untoward trends in his currency he'll have to make it into something more valuable. That means higher interest rates. People who borrow US$ will have to get used to it. If they can't pay their bills, they'll have to put their assets up for sale. The holders of US$ will probably make a bid. I'll take Globalstar, Global Crossing and Leap Wireless for $10,000 each, provided Sprint is thrown in as a bonus. Mq
