Reyna thinks USA got just reward

[ho ho ho my £5 100:1 bet is still riding after it nearly toppled at the second round fence -g-]

United States captain Claudio Reyna believes his side deserved their place in the second round even though they lost 3-1 to Poland.

In the end the Americans clinched second spot in the group after South Korea beat Portugal 1-0.

"We have been a bit unlucky in the past but we got our bit of luck," he said.

"Plenty of other teams went through with just four points so we will settle for that.

"Italy, one of the biggest teams in the world, needed luck to get through so we will take it. Overall I think we deserved our place."

However, Reyna was grateful for the contribution of the co-hosts.

"We are through not because we won, but because of what Korea did," he said.

"We owe them a big thanks. It was not a great way to go through, but we are through and that is what matters."
