but the atrocities of France and Spain in denying the right of the Basque people--who are NOT French or Spanish--from self-determination in their homeland is never mentioned, Well, I'm not sure I would call them "atrocities", but there's no doubt the Basques are seeking their own national entity.. But they have a democracy in Spain, which provides a mechanism for resolving these differences. And Israel is the only democracy in the middle east, surrounded by Dictatorships and Monarchs, generally answerable only to their own power elite. There's a reason that the European leadership has favored the dictatorial rule of Arafat. Because HE'S the one who sent his forces into Europe to conduct terrrorist attacks and hijackings. And they fear having that occur again... So they appease his blackmail. Now if the Palestinians were fighting their own Arab "brethren" in Jordan and Syria for their "homeland", rather than just attacking the Jews, I might have more sympathy for their cause. But that's not been the scenario... Hawk
