Germany has over 9% unemployment

I recently had a chat with a friend in Germany who explained this was a Good Thing: this way it's easy to get good parties going for World Cup watching.

Haim, truth be known, I'd say the U.S. unemployment #'s are severely understated...afterall, we don't even count those whom have no benefits left and have simply quit looking...I wonder how many more people are on medicaid/welfare that number has been rising and yet it's not reported.

Shalom, Haim:

See in

xave.de

"The Dumb stay behind" entry, it's something like

xave.de

If you discount the press's drive for stronger colours, the picture is still bleak. I'd say it's actually horrible. And it was not some yellow press reporting, it's Spiegel after all.

I would not know about the rest of the Union, but I'll be on the watch.

The last time I was in Germany for any length of time was about 7 years ago. My German friends who are no fools were saying that no matter how the Government lied and juggled statistics some basic facts of Demographics could not be overlooked. They said that the each teenager in Germany was going to be having to support 3 or 4( I think it was three I can't remember for sure but it was a really high number.)Older people on retirement once they reached their thirties. According to them this was the reason some people in government were introducing bills to make abortion illegal. The government desperately wanted an expanding tax base. They said that the young people were very aware of this and it was a political time bomb. If this true it would explain why young Germans are inclined to not work so hard. I'm not sure how EU effects this if at all.
