Don't play catch with your Newfoundland near the sea or nea a bar. If he goes to fetch the stick in the sea, he will just keep swimming until he reaches an island. If he goes in a bar, you will likewise not see him again until he takes the pledge. Don't hold your breath. Retriever is just a name. The basic reason they bred Newfoundlands is so that if you ran out of firewood in the middle of the night, two people could useone dog to keep warm. What this led to is another topic but for the life of me, I can't figure out why they are dark haired.
