Not Apples and oranges at all.

Both methods have signal smearing problems that compound with distance and timing optimizations.

Yes, you heard me right.

Even light.

Even in single mode cable without FDM.

It's just not as bad there so the distances are greater.

Dumbmoney, It's not Apples and Oranges. You can have a OC192 ITU and 63 ITU's each having it's own modulated band of 55mhz to 860Mhz on it all on the same fiber. We are talking about what you can squeeze on a Fiber and how far you can send it without having to have EDFA's every 40 klicks.

HFC is just that. Hybrid Fiber Coax.

My point stands. This new technology isn't even close to being deployed, as even OC-192 has many Issues, mainly dispersion.
