Another poster put it very well: the sub-35 crowd in Germany has realized they're f'ed by demographics. Too many pensioners, not enough youth, and in that context they're making the right long term choice because it will force an earlier, rather than later, reckoning. Why break your back when there is precious little chance you'll benefit from it? Another 5 years or so and the younger half of the American spectrum is going to realize the same thing. IMO it isn't going to be pretty. Now back to the Ireland:Spain game, which has just gone into penalty kicks...
