You provincials crack me up sometimes.

You, like me, are a born and bred Easterner

Despite the recent tone of the thread, I will resist the impulse to treat that as a malicious insult. <g>

but I think you may overestimate your tolerance for the Southwest

I've spent considerable time in Tucson visiting my father and it has it's attractions. It has some rudimentary sophistication. There's even an Ethiopian restaurant now. And I find the prospect of coyotes in my back yard cool.

Last week I had plans to take a trip to the Wilmington area of North Carolina to check it out. A friend suggested that I might like a community being built in Southport. I had been in that area before but as a tourist, which is not the same as living there. As I was researching my trip and checking out possible neighborhoods, I looked at this site, which describes demographics by zip code.

fallschurch.claritas.com

It produce this assessment of demographic groups in the area:

25 Mobility Blues
37 New Homesteaders
38 Middle America
44 Shotguns & Pickups
54 Norma Rae-Ville

What could I have been thinking? Where would I ever find a supermarket that carried Chinese eggplant?

So I'm back to the drawing boards.

The climate most attractive to me is a temperature range of around 50-75. A bit warmer is OK if the humidity is low. That's why I was focusing on the San Francisco to Vancouver area. But, when it comes to doing anything about it, I have a very bad case of inertia. I'm sure a lot of that is the attractiveness of where I am now.
