Senate Domocratic leadership has blocked Bush at every turn. Daschel is a most destructive obstructionist. A Fiscal stimulus package was in order in 2001. There was none. We did get increased spending from 9/11 related activities. We never got a well thought out Fiscal package. The tax refund give away probably didn't have the best multiplier in the economy --supposedly was most often used to cut debt.

A slow recovery is extremely dangerous in that it will continue to erode stock prices and make people feel poorer. That is the danger. At some point the erosion of their 401K values will affect consumer spending. I think we may be there now. With consumer debt at an all time high, a decision on the part of consumers to pull back and reduce debt due to 1) insecurity over terrorism, 2) high debt load, 3) fallng 401K values, 4) slow recovery, etc is a definite possibility that seems to be becoming more likely--not less.
