The Best Steps in Analyzing Potential Investments

Fundamental (stock, sector)
T/A (stock, sector, market)
Overall Market Psychology

Question: if you are unwilling to expend the effort of analysis of the fundamentals, T/A and market psychology, then are you a good trader or investor? After all, T/A alone, the tool of many, is not working alone as well as it has in the past. Instead a CFO suicide or bomb blast overseas can completely overshadow what should happen according to T/A.

In this environment, good fundamentals often underpin a stock and make it a safer bet, does it not? So if a stock:

a) is in a healthy sector,

b) is undervalued based on fundamental comparison with other stocks in its sector,

c) has provided good guidance

d) has a good history of stable earnings, good growth, and other performance (per IBD rankings for instance),

e) has a limited amount of negative factors,

f) is near double or triple strength support on the charts and

AND the overall market looks poised for a rally then that it is the ideal stock of all, is it not?

BEING SELECTIVE
Screen #1 --- Basic Fundamentals (if passes, then...)

Screen #2a --- Short Analysis (if passes, then...)

Screen #2b --- Insider Transactions (if passes, then...)

Screen the following:
Read filings (debt, cash flow, management comments, etc.)
Press Releases (current performance, guidance, delays, etc.)
Analyst comments (as contrary indicators?)
Investor Business Daily (their grading scheme can be useful)

FINAL STEP: Timing via charts AND market psychology

Who ever said it was easy? LOL!
