I'm not convinced that Americans will ultimately regard federal government assistance as a right They already do. Social Security and Medicare are considered "rights" by many, and both programs are funded on the backs of future generations. You don't think so? Go to an AARP meeting and suggest raising the retirement age or adjusting payments and see if you can stay alive long enough to reach the exit. Current retirees are collecting benefits they didn't even come close to paying for, following in the finest socialist tradition.
