<<Eventually the bear will go into hibernation and a new bull will emerge. In the meantime, there will be plenty of opportunities to make money trading the short term bull markets within the bear context, but there is plenty of very rational reason to be negative about the markets. >>

I am happy to see that you have covered all the possible scenarios ...

by the way, just take one cajones out of your own sack, and throw it to augieboo !!!
just make sure after augieboo finished playing with it, you wash it thoroughly before you put it back into the sack ...

The movements in the dollar could the real key for this market near term. Dollar index has been holding at just above 110; last week it seemed to have found support even while the markets have been sliding...that is a change I observed last week.

I am convinced that something has to happen near term with the dollar...and its impact will be felt in the stock market. At this point, looking to increase my long bet but could change my mind very quickly depending upon what I see with the bonds and dollar. The market move could be explosive...and a reasonable way to play this may just be buying the stocks with some cheap puts as a hedge. (I think)

Going into the week 35% cash.

Hi augieboo, don't worry, I'm very aware of the de-coupling of the markets and the underlying economy. Remember -- the mania/bubble hit its crescendo while the fed was almost through RAISING rates. How messed up was that ?

I bailed when the Fed STARTED raising rates, lol.

Here's a post I made in APRIL 2000 !! It was not the only one I made like that either.

Message 13476375

VERY FEW PEOPLE made "Its all over" posts so soon after the bubble burst. My only mistake has been to grossly underestimate the sheer stupidity of the investing public. They should have all figured it out and bailed within 9 months.

Regards,
Chris
