The intoxication of power happens at the top, when it is realized you can get away with damn near anything, it's tempting, and a recipe for disaster after disaster to allow unaccountability of US agencies. I know what you mean about not missing opportunites to talk with those with experiences. I tell my kids that every chance I get. Re: rooting out the misguided and outright corrupt - yep, and it's happening more now, by whistleblowers who are being increasingly protected by certain Congressmen, who care about the integrity of our agencies. It is still dangerous, but the only way to start cleaning up the past 50 years' accumulation of barnacles.
