Re : "a tin can filled with coins" (possibly buried in one's back yard) (as an "investment vehicle") --

I read a very funny Dave Berry piece on investments.

He said something like :

With the way stocks have been falling lately on Wall Street, some investors have decided that a prudent investment is just to bury a coffee can filled with coins in their back yard.

Those who wish to diversify have been burying two coffee cans.
